What do you enjoy most about coaching?
I very much enjoy helping people succeed and over my working career I got considerable satisfaction and enjoyment in challenging people to go further than they thought, but I knew with the right support, they could. It was great when people achieved their own goals and beyond.
How do you motivate people to do better?
I am now keen to see this type of approach applied in the sport I love and am working with the wider Athletics Canterbury team to make this a reality. There are many of us keen to provide the support required to see people achieving their running potential and I would encourage you to make us feel useful.
What else, apart from running, do you enjoy doing?
Outside of running with friends and organising running support I also enjoy walking on the hills near my home, working on improvements to our section, knitting and reading. I would like to be able to say I also enjoyed cooking but my family are likely to correct the record on that!
What is your ideal after run way of relaxing?
At the end of a hard run it is great to kick back with others and enjoy the social side of running – I have some great friends who I enjoy walking / running with on a Sunday morning prior to a very long coffee session and belonging to a club has provided me with lots of people to also enjoy a cup of tea or wine with. Running is great but the post -run social side is even better.
